THE RASHTRIYA Lok Dal (RLD) has decided to keep away from the Jan Morcha recently launched by former prime minister VP Singh. The RLD had earlier tied up with Singh’s Kisan Morcha and shared platform with him at several rallies but the party is opposed to have any alliance with suspended SP MP from Agra, Raj Babbar, who is Jan Morcha president. The RLD has made it clear that it would not attend May 30 rally of the Morcha in Lucknow.

While reviewing the prevailing political situation here on Friday, RLD chief Ajit Singh today indicated about continuing his alliance with the ruling Samajwadi Party. Singh, who was here to address RLD MLAs’ meeting, asked them to fan out in their constituencies as the State could go to polls any time. He said that election preparations should be launched without further delay. Party sources said that Singh had also decided to appoint State RLD chief Ram Asre Verma as State Exports Corporation chairman in place of Dr Mairajuddin Ahmad, who had been appointed irrigation minister.

Referring to massive smuggling of wheat meant for below poverty line people, Singh directed the MLAs to raise the issue in the House. Similarly, the party would also oppose the ban on wheat movement from one district to other. To the complaints of MLAs about the government not doing development work in their areas, Singh asked Tourism Minister Kaukab Hamid to take up a delegation to the chief minister to solve the problems.
