RNI asks daily, periodical publishers to file returns

The Registrar of Newspapers has appealed to publishers to file their annual statements before the last date of May 31, 2006.

The Registrar of Newspapers has appealed to publishers of newspapers and periodicals to file their annual statements before the last date of May 31, 2006 to enable Government to compile data on growth of media in the country, a PIB release here said.

The Press and Registration of Books Act 1867 makes it mandatory for publishers to file annual statements and if not done regularly compiling statistics about growth of the press in the country would be a gigantic task, the release added.
