The city police have arrested a couple involved in a series of robberies at houses of lonely and elderly people.
Rekha and her husband Dharmendra were arrested from Sector 36. According to police, the couple committed a robbery in January at a senior citizen's house in Sector 37, where the woman was employed as a part-time maid.
The police said her employer Sudesh Chopra had not got her police verification done. Taking advantage of this, the woman concealed her identity and introduced herself as Rajkumari while working at Chopra's house. On January 24, she along with her husband tied Chopra and robbed of cash and jewellery.
"With the help of a local informer the couple was arrested on Sunday from Sector 36," said Yogesh Singh, superintendent of police (city).
During interrogation, the couple confessed to have committed the crime and several other robberies in the city.
"They use to work with single or elderly owners as they are soft targets. They have also confessed to have robbed a family in Sector 29," Singh added.
The city has witnessed a spurt in crimes involving servants and domestic helps.
