The city police on Sunday night arrested three robbers after an exchange of fire in the Alipur area. The accused were produced in a local court on Monday and were taken in two days' police remand.
One of the gang members was injured in the incident and was rushed to the civil hospital, where his condition was said to be stable.
According to the police, the gang has been involved in around 35 cases of robbery and other crime incidents in and around Gurgaon.
The police officials also recovered two country-made pistols, two live cartridges and one Bolero car from their possession. However, one gang member managed to escape from the spot.
The accused have been identified as Naseeb, Nafeez and Kadar Khan. Hafiz, the gang leader, however, managed to flee from the spot. All of them are residents of Mewat and have been involved in looting trucks and other incidents.
"We received a tip-off about the gang from our sources and they were caught while they were making another plan to loot a truck near a farmhouse situated in Sohna.
The gang of four men had attacked and fired two rounds on the police party, the police said.
"The gang was armed with pistols and iron rods. Initially they tried to flee, but the police personnel chased them successfully," said a police official.
"In retaliation, the gang opened fire. In response, one of the gang members was injured. The bullet hit his leg," said Rajbeer Singh, inspector, crime branch, Gurgaon police.
