In yet another case of armed robbery in the city, a group of masked men barged into a retail chain outlet on Old Delhi Road and decamped with cash and other valuable items.
The robbery took place at Vishal Mega Mart around 9.30pm on Sunday when the security guard was about to down the shutters.
The burglars held the guard at gunpoint.
The retail chain store is located close to the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) office in Sector 14, which houses a big commercial complex along the Old Delhi Road. A police post is also located a few metres away from the outlet.
Though a case has been registered, no arrests were made till Monday evening.
“We are investigating the matter. Culprits will be arrested very soon,” said Naresh Kumar, station house officer (SHO), Civil Lines police station.
According to the police, the miscreants made a forced entry into the outlet and ransacked the store.
They were in the store for five to seven minutes and looted cash and other valuable assets. However, the police did not give the details about the amount of cash and other assets which were looted by the robbers.
The incident has created panic among the consumers. The residents have condemned the act and held the police responsible for doing nothing even after 24 hours of the incident. “Last year in our sector market, an assailant had shot at the owner of a Mother Dairy booth,” said a resident.
