The hottest gossip couple in the tennis world, Maria Sharapova and Andy Roddick, say they are unaware of anything more than friendly feelings between them.
Sharapova and Roddick both waltzed through wins at the US Open and each denied they are a romantic item as has been the rumour for the past year.
Sharapova professed not to know that Roddick celebrated his 24th birthday on Monday's opening day, reportedly cracking a solo celebratory beer in the locker room after a first-round win.
For his part, Roddick, sighted with the leggy Florida-based Russian over the past 12 months at her perfume launch, at a show business awards ceremony and at the gambling tables of Melbourne's Crowne casino during the Australian Open, said the millionaire pair are nothing more than friends.
"We're not dating. I've said it a million times already. We're friendly. We're in the same places. I think she's a great girl. We'll talk. That's about it."
He said a full-blown relationship was just not on. "It's a little bit of a stretch when we both travel. She's actually busier than I am. I think she's great. I can't say enough nice things about her."
Sharapova was equally closed-mouthed. "I really don't talk about my personal life.
"When two tennis players know each other and are friends, and are known around the world, people are gonna talk. That's exactly what's happening."
