A woman with her two children protested outside the SP house here on Sunday, after her husband was allegedly held captive by financiers at an undisclosed location for not paying the debt amount. The husband of Preeti Devi, 35, of Mokhra village in the district is missing since Saturday afternoon.

She told the media that her husband had taken a loan of Rs 10,000 from Babbal of Mokhra six years ago. Owing to their poor financial condition, they could not pay the loan and, in lieu of that had worked at Babbal's field.

Devi said the accused, who belonged to the Rajput community, along with Anoop Kumar, another resident of same village, used to harass her family on one pretext or the other.

She said she had moved a complaint in this regard to Meham police station on October 7, but nothing was done. A similar application was submitted to local SP office on October 10, which was marked to station house officer, Meham, for taking action. Devi said she was kept waiting at the Meham police station to meet the station house officer on Saturday, but to no avail.

She said that the accused had barged into their house and forcefully took away her husband to an undisclosed location and threatened of dire consequences. SP Rajesh Duggal said the family had been given security cover and action would be taken against the accused.

Devi has approached local mahila samiti and met its members Anju Devi and Veena Malik for help. Mahila samiti members along with the victim identified as Preeti Devi and staged a protest outside the SP's house.
