The local rural police arrested a rookie constable for drug peddling here on Wednesday. They also recovered smack from the possession of the accused, who himself is a drug addict. The police have come to know about the caper after a woman approached police at Mullanpur Dakha police station and complained about the accused.

The woman, a resident of Goraya, levelled allegations of loot against the constable and his accomplice Yadwinder Singh. After investigation, police found that the constable was actively involved in drug peddling.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case against constable Mandeep Singh deputed at Mullanpur Dakha police station, his accomplice and a woman under the NDPS act.

SHO, Mullanpur Dakha police station, inspector Harbhajan Singh said the constable used to buy smack from a woman in Goraya. The relationship between the constable and woman turned sour, after which, the woman hatched the conspiracy to implicate constable in the loot case.

During investigation, the woman and constable confessed their crime and a case under the NDPS act was registered against them. SHO added the matter had been brought to the notice of senior police officials and rookie constable was suspended from his duty.

Police said they were further investigating the case to find out the role of other accomplices of the constable.
