Rotary Club to launch campaign against drug abuse

Concerned over the growing menace of drug addiction in society, members of the Rotary Club would launch a massive drive to educate the youth concerning the ill-effects of the drugs on human health. Besides, the members would also launch a similar drive to conserve the environment and tree plantation in and around the town.

Newly elected president of the club Puneet Sharma while expressing his gratitude to all members for giving him a chance to lead the club, said besides routine and ongoing projects, he had decided to construct a public toilet block on the Rajgarh road of the town at a cost of Rs 18.5 lakh as a matching grant project.

The application for matching grant has already been submitted with Rotary International and is likely to be cleared in near future. Sharma said a new emergency van would also be dedicated to people of town soon.

Earlier, outgoing president ML Jhamba while presenting the detailed reports of club activities during his tenure said the club undertook a lot of projects, including a seminar on anti-drug abuse, tree plantation, fruit distribution at hospital, blood donation camps and anti-drugs rally.

Presiding over the function, local municipal council's chairman Kul Rakesh Pant lauding the efforts of the club members said the council would extend all possible help to the club members in executing public welfare projects.

The function was attended by additional deputy commissioner CP Verma, Commandant of NCC Colonel Rajeev Thakur, Lt Col Lokesh Singh, assistant governor zone I Avnish Sood, president of the District Congress Committee Rahul Singh Thakur, vice-chairman MC Pawan Gupta, divisional forest officer Prem Mahajan and other Rotarians.
