The government on Wednesday appointed RR Verma, a 1978-batch Bihar cadre IPS officer as director general of Railways Protection Force (RPF).
Verma headed the Gujarat high court constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) which probed the controversial encounter of Ishrat Jahan and three others for which top officials of Gujarat police and Intelligence Bureau ( IB) have been charge sheeted.
In other crucial appointments, the Modi administration appointed two IPS officers AK Sharma from Gujarat and Amrit Mohan Prasad from Odisha cadre as joint directors in the CBI.
Sharma, a 1987 batch IPS of Gujarat cadre, is currently posted as special commissioner, Ahmedabad crime branch. AK Sharma is the first IPS officer from the state to go on high profile position after Narendra Modi’s elevation as the Prime Minister last year.
PM Modi also extended tenure of six joint directors of the CBI.
