A MAN was relieved of Rs 2.15 lakh kept in his scooter’ pannier in Jumerati on Wednesday night. Complainant, Naresh Surjani, 42, a resident of Idgah Hills, had parked his scooter in front of his cousin, Ravi Surajani’s shop and gone to attend nature’s call when someone allegedly made away with the cash wrapped in a polythene and kept in the pannier of the scooter.
Naresh supplies grocery on behalf of an Indore-based company and collects the amounts from shops through out the day. His cousin, Ravi, said that he did see a person leaning near the scooter for a while but before he could realise, the person fled the spot.
Surjani said that the bag contained Rs 2.15 lakhs. However, the police were suspicious because initially Surjani said that he had been robbed.
He had told police officials that two motorcycle-borne youths had snatched the bag but later told police that just in order to ensure that the theft got adequate attention, he complained of robbery.
He had parked the scooter near Tarashri Store. However, no other shop owner saw any suspicious person around. Besides, the pannier was found locked by police. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
