Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday announced financial assistance of Rs 400 crore for relief operations in flood-affected Maharashtra.
Singh reviewed the flood situation in Nanded district in Marathwada region of Maharashtra and announced that a Central team would be sent to assess the damage caused by the floods.
So far, over 150 people have been reported killed in rain-related incidents and over 4.60 lakh have been evacuated from low-lying areas as floods hit 23 districts in the state.
The Prime Minister arrived at Nanded around 1300 hours and met flood-affected people who have been camping in relief shelters.
He later addressed a review meeting on flood situation. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh was also present.
