Railways Minister Mamata Banerjee announced an ex-gratia of Rs.5 lakh each to the families of those killed in a railway accident in Madhya Pradesh early Monday.

A railway ministry statement also quoted her as saying that each of the grievously injured passenger would get Rs.1 lakh while those who suffered simple injuries would get Rs.50,000.

"She also announced jobs in the railways to one person" from each family of the dead, it said.

The minister instructed officials to ensure speedy relief and rescue operation.

At least 15 people were killed and more than 50 injured when a stationary Intercity Indore-Gwalior Express was hit by a goods train at Badarwas railway station near Guna early Monday.
