BJP MPs, including Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, and others on Thursday gathered at Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu's residence in New Delhi to listen to an hour long baudhik (lecture) from RSS general secretary Suresh Bhaiyaji Joshi on 'nation building' and the Sangh's relevance in contemporary society.
Sources close to the speaker said it was a personal and social gathering, which had nothing to do with politics.
Joshi told BJP MPs - many of whom were clad in white kutra payjama and black cap, the RSS' dress code for its shakha (assembly) - that it has always laid emphasis on 'character building' and those who have been 'trained in the RSS' were leading the country now.
Joshi asked parivar members to be extra vigilant in ensuring peace and harmony in the society. RSS publicity chief Manmohan Vaidya, who also attended the event, said it was a raksha bandhan event and no political discussion took place.
"Several leaders of parivar having Delhi as their centre of activity gathered for this event. We keep meeting at regular interval and these sorts of events are aimed at promoting harmony in the society," Vaidya said.
BJP leader LK Advani and many Union Ministers, including Sushma Swaraj, were also present.
