The RSS leadership has divested its joint general secretary Suresh Soni of the crucial job of coordination with the BJP — an assignment he was looking after for almost a decade now. An announcement to this effect will be made at a meeting of top RSS leaders in Lucknow between October 14 and 20.
Soni, a top RSS source told HT, will be replaced with Krishna Gopal, another joint general secretary of the BJP’s ideological cousin. This was communicated by top RSS leaders to BJP”s leadership on Thursday.
Soni’s style of functioning had ruffled many feathers in the BJP. “Krishna Gopal has been introduced to the sangathan mantris of the BJP. An announcement is expected around October 17,” a source said.
RSS pracharaks sent to the BJP to strengthen its organisational networks are called sangathan mantris. They wield considerable influence in the party set-up.
With Soni’s exit, it is widely believed, many state sangathan mantris may be replaced with new, younger faces.
Two senior RSS pracharaks have already been promoted to the central level as sah sangathan mantris.
“More changes would be carried out at the state level after the organisational elections starts in November,” a party source told HT.
