THE UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) will kick-off its hi-tech city bus service in Noida on November 12. The buses will ply within Noida, Greater Noida and between Noida/Greater Noida and some other cities like Delhi, Agra and Deharadun.
The UPSRTC will begin its operation with 42 buses—21 CNG non-AC and as many diesel AC buses in the first phase. In total, it will operate 250 buses. It will also ply CNG AC buses too but presently no company is manufacturing the chassis of the CNG AC buses. Azad Body Builders, a Jaipur-based company, is manufacturing the buses for the UPSRTC. Significantly, the UPSRTC has not investing a single penny. The Noida and Greater Noida have agreed to give Rs 60 crore to it for purchasing buses. It has already got Rs 30 crore. As per an agreement, the two authorities will also bear losses the UPSRTC might suffer during the next three years for providing city bus service.
According to a senior UPSRTC official, a state-of-the-art bus station is being built in Noida from where the buses will operate. “The entire bus-station will be computerised and automatised,” he claimed.
Meanwhile, a delegation led by Transport Minister Naresh Agrawal will shortly leave for a tour of four foreign countries to study transport system there to incorporate their best features in the Noida city bus service.
