In a new twist, the kin of Ruchi Bhuttan, who allegedly committed suicide in her DLF City home on Thursday, said her husband Sumit and model Meera Chopra had an affair despite being distant relatives.
"Both Sumit and Meera were relatives and still in friendly relationship. This resulted in estranged relations between Sumit and Ruchi. We did not know of this relationship before their marriage, said Preeti Gupta, Ruchi's sister.
Meanwhile, police teams have started conducting raids at various places, including some places in Delhi, to locate Meera, cousin of Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra.
On Thursday, a Gurgaon court sent Sumit on 14 days judicial custody. He was arrested after his wife Ruchi was found hanging in their house in DLF Phase-2 on Tuesday. "We are investigating the matter and examining the diary provided by Ruchi's family. Also, we are examining Sumit and Ruchi's phone call details to get more lead," said a police official.
The deceased's family has accused Sumit of torturing Ruchi for dowry and having an affair with Meera. The accused has been running a share brokerage firm in Delhi and his wife was also working in the same company. Police said Sumit and Meera are relatives. Sumit's family is trying to cover up this for unknown reasons.
Police have recovered a laptop from the couple's home and also a diary in which Ruchi had mentioned about their strained relationship because of Meera.
