Rukhsana, the 21-year-old girl from Rajouri who fought and killed a terrorist, told President Pratibha Patil on Friday that every girl in the country should be given arms training to take on terrorism and wipe it out from the country forever.
Patil, on a visit to Rajouri and Poonch districts, met Rukhsana and her brother Ajaz at Dak Bunglow in Rajouri town, 160 km northeast of Jammu.
Rukhsana had shot dead a Lashkar-e-Tayyeba terrorist in her village Kasli in upper Shadhara Sharief on Sept 27. She first hit him with an axe. Ajaz hit another terrorist on the head with an axe, though he managed to run away.
“I told the President that girls are equally courageous and the government should help them by providing arms training,” Rukhsana told HT over phone from Rajouri town, where her family is putting up in a police quarters. The President asked how she got the courage to take on the terrorist.
“I told the President that I couldn’t stand anyone beating up my parents and in a spurt of anger hit the terrorist with an axe, snatched his rifle and shot him.”
The President promised Rukhsana that every possible help would be extended to her family and they would be provided better accommodation.
