Sagar teachers condemn ?killing?

india Updated: Sep 02, 2006 02:30 IST

Teachers of Dr Hari Singh Gour University have said that the killing of Prof. HS Sabharwal was a matter of shame and disgrace for the state. A meeting was held under the aegis of Dr Hari Singh Gour University Teachers’ Association on Friday to condemn the incident and the teachers sported black ribbons as mark of protest.

Later they submitted a memorandum to the Vice-chancellor addressed to the Governor. The Association members paid homage to the professor by observing two-minute silence.

Addressing the teachers’ meeting, the association president Akhileshwer Dubey said that it was a black day in the history of education, when the students had killed a teacher on a very small issue.

“In the attack not only Professor Sabharwal lost his life, but it also shattered the noble relation between ‘Guru’ and ‘Shishya’”, he added.

In the memorandum to the Governor, the association has demanded that a CBI inquiry should be conducted into the incident so that the educational institutions and teachers could function in a fearless atmosphere. They have also sought the assurance that such incidents would not be repeated in any institution in the state.
