Fearing arrest for his alleged hate speech, BJP’s controversial Lok Sabha candidate for Kandhamal seat Ashok Sahu on Monday moved Orissa High Court seeking anticipatory bail.
The petition is likely to be heard on Wednesday as Tuesday is a holiday, Sahu’s lawyer Souri Mohapatra told PTI.
Sahu had planned a rally at Phulbani, the district headquarter town, but later cancelled his programme.
“I am yet to be served the arrest warrant ... I will join a road show at Phulbani tomorrow, the last day of campaigning,” he said.
Sahu, accused of delivering hate speech at the communally sensitive district on April 5, is facing charges under the Representation of People Act and the IPC.
A criminal case was registered against him at Raikia police station in Kandhamal district on April 10.
