Same old story plagues water taxi plan

After inordinate delays, the dream of Mumbaiites to sail between Borivli to Nariman Point in the most environment-friendly mode of transport may have received a fillip.
However, the reception of a single technical bid by a private operator, in running the project on a build-operate-transfer basis has once again meant the repeat of an old story where bidders either back out at the last minute or the bids are cancelled due to tender rules being flouted.
On Monday, only one bidder, M/s Pratibha Industries Ltd, submitted technical details for setting up water transport between Nariman Point and Borivli. MSRDC is now evaluating the technical bids. The financial bids will be opened if the technical bids meet the requisite requirements.
“We won’t cancel this bid because there is only one bidder. We will evaluate the technical bid and if it meets the requisite requirements we will then open the financial tender,” MSRDC Joint Managing Director Sonia Sethi said.
The PWT concept, which was floated two decades ago, connects locations like Nariman Point, Bandra, Juhu (Near Holiday Inn), Versova, Marve, Borivli (Charkop) located on the city’s West Coast. Even though the project holds potential it has been delayed.
