Sangma's car involved in mishap, wife, friend unhurt

Former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma had a narrow escape but his wife and a former Rajya Sabha MP suffered minor injuries when their vehicle rammed into the escort car in Bangladesh last evening.

Former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma had a narrow escape but his wife and a former Rajya Sabha MP suffered minor injuries when their vehicle rammed into the escort car in Bangladesh last evening.

The official vehicle of Sangma rammed into the escort car at about 6.30 p.m. yesterday as the NCP leader was returning from Bangladesh via the Dawki-Tamabil international border near Sylhet, official reports said in Shillong on Friday. While Sangma escaped unhurt, his wife Soradini K Sangma and former Rajya Sabha MP B B Dutta, travelling in the same vehicle, got injured, the reports said.

Sangma's wife suffered wounds on the shoulder and lips as she hit the head-rest of the front seat under the impact of the accident. Dutt received back injury. Both the injured were taken to the Nazareth Hospital here but their condition was stated to be out of danger. Confirming the accident, Sangma’s son and Meghalaya MLA Conrad said, "he (P A Sangma) is unhurt."
