Sanjay withdraws marriage papers
Actor Sanjay Dutt and Manyata sought withdrawal of their marriage registration in Goa, where they had filed a declaration on February 7.
Actor Sanjay Dutt and Manyata are not man and wife, at least not in legal terms.
The two sought withdrawal of their marriage registration in Goa, where they had filed a declaration on February 7.
The declaration was to be confirmed within 90 days. The authorities had kept the marriage registration on hold after they found Manyata’s Goa residence certificate attached to the marriage declaration was questionable. Her residence certificate was suspended and she was issued a notice, asking why it should not be cancelled.
On Wednesday, 20 days after they had filed their application, the couple filed a joint declaration with Goa’s registration authorities saying they did not desire to solemnise their marriage under the Portuguese Civil Code (1867).
Salcette sub-registrar Chandrakant Pissurlekar has accepted the declaration, which means the marriage has no legal validity.
However, Dutt said: “My marriage is legal. We married in a proper ceremony.”
