With "mercy" as its theme, the lawyer of Sarabjit Singh, an Indian national who is on death row in Pakistan, will pen a book on the prisoner highlighting his life and the case.
Awais Sheikh, who is handling Sarabjit's case since June last year, in his book- 'Sarabjit: A Case of Mistaken Identity' will also raise voice against death sentence existing in various countries.
"Mercy will be the core theme of my book which will roam around Sarabjit, his life and the case. I am searching for suitable publisher in India due to certain reasons and initial hurdles for the task in Pakistan," Sheikh told PTI.
Sheikh, a Pakistani national, said he has seen the case and life of Sarabjit very closely and visited the place in Punjab where he used to live.
He said he has collected certificates and evidences of his actual identity, so he has enough inputs to write the book.
"In Sarabjit's case, we have enough evidences to prove that it is a case of mistaken identity. The previous lawyer had submitted application to the Supreme Court of Pakistan for case reconsideration but the court rejected it," he said.
Sheikh said, "I will write more about the case and its various legal and social aspects rather than criticising the government of Pakistan. I will justify Sarabjit's release in the book. My emphasis will be on mercy that why it is needed at the time when concept of punishment is changing world over".
