Suspended Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP, Kunal Ghosh who tried to commit suicide on Friday was shifted to Presidency Correctional Home’s hospital on Sunday evening.
Kunal Ghosh had consumed sleeping pills in his cell trying to commit suicide. According to sources, security has been doubled at the correctional home before Ghosh was shifted. It has been decided that senior officers in the correctional home will make hourly rounds to ensure that Ghosh does not attempt suicide again, which was not only a cause for embarrassment for jail authorities but also the state government.
“We are taking no chances. It has happened once and we want to make sure it does not take place again since we had to suspend a few officials of the correctional home after Ghosh tried to commit suicide,” a senior police officer said.
Initially, Ghosh was lodged in a specially guarded cell in the Presidency Correctional Home. His neighbours included top Maoists leaders, terror accused and gangsters. According to senior officers, Ghosh will be kept in the same cell once he is fit.
