THE CENTRE will award contract for the 4000-mw Sasan power project in Sidhi district by December 31. The State Government has already given environmental clearance for the Rs 20000- crore mega project.
On Monday, Union Power Secretary RV Shahi in New Delhi said that bids for the two ultra mega power projects — Sasan in MP and Mudra in Gujarat — would be evaluated at the earliest and the execution would be awarded latest by December 31. He was addressing an interactive session organised by the ASSOCHAM. The State Government has given environment clearance for the project and it is in the final stage of acceptance by the Union Environment and Forest Ministry, he added.
According to sources, the State Government has been allotted 1500 mw from the proposed project, for which required money has already been paid.
The State Government already paid a sum of Rs 15 crore to the Power Ministry as committed advance for the plant. Sasan project is expected to generate power at a cost of Rs 1.50 per unit
Private sector majors Tata Power, Reliance Energy, Essar, L&T, Jindal Steel and Power and GMR, Sumitomo of Japan, Khanjee Holdings of the US, China Light and Power and the state-run NTPC Ltd are among those which have shown interest in the two projects.
The Sasan power project was conceived as a pit-head plant. Ministry of Coal has already allocated a coal block in the Sasan area, Mohear, for captive mining.
