The annual travel and tourism fair 'SATTE' expects to see over 1,000 buyers, including 280 from overseas, participating in the 16th edition of the event to be held from April 23-25 even as tourism sector reels under pressure of slowdown.
"Despite the slowdown, we expect to see about 1,000 buyers participating at the event. We would also see participation from 280 foreign buyers (who have pre-fixed meetings) from 31 countries, which is really affirmative of the potential of the industry," SATTE Chief Coordinator Navin Berry told PTI.
While the event will have tourism boards from 16 nations, countries like New Zealand, Jordan and Singapore would make their debut in the fair.
"Countries like Dubai, Malaysia, Egypt, Thailand and Scandinavia will also be exhibiting," he said, adding that about 20 Indian states would also be present at SATTE 2009.
Gujarat is the principal partner and Orissa is the heritage partner state for the event. "There is a clear focus on domestic tourism. The number of outbound against domestic tourists speaks of the high potential of the domestic travel," Berry said.
