SC notice to Centre on farmers' suicide

The notice is on a plea seeking review of the existing agriculture policy in the wake of suicides by the farmers in many parts of the country.
The Supreme Court on Monday issued notice to the Centre on a petition seeking review of the existing agriculture policy in the wake of suicides by the farmers in many parts of the country.
A Bench headed by the Chief Justice of India YK Sabharwal also issued notices to the government of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala on a petition filed by an advocate Sanjeev Bhatnagar.

The PIL has also sought that an expert committee be constituted to investigate the basic reasons and lapses in the execution of the existing agriculture policy for the welfare of the farmers of the country.
