15-year-old British teenager Scarlett Keeling who was found murdered in Goa on February 18, 2008, had emailed a friend in Spain three days before her death, saying she had been gangraped by six men. The identity of the rapists is revealed in the emails. They are Indians aged between 18 and 30 and are suspected to be in Goa now for the tourist season.
Hindustan Times has a copy of these emails.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which took over the case from the Goa police, said because of a technical problem it has been unable to see the contents of these emails, which were made available to it two months ago. Investigation officer Pramod Mudbhatkal said, “We are unable to open the email due to a virus.”
One of the emails, purportedly sent by Scarlett, said she attended a beach party at Morjim where she took drugs including ecstasy and that there was a police raid and that she was dragged away by some "weird men" as everyone else had legged it –– "my brother got hit by a car last nyt an we dont no wat his condision is an i went 2 a beach party in morjim last nyt took sum md an lsd an xstasy …[expletive deleted] an the police raided it an took leon hu is a frend coz he was havin a go at bin a dj they slappd Julio[Scarlett's 25-year-old boyfriend] an took him away i got draged away by some weird men an evryone else had leggd it an i was …[expletive deleted] buzzin man,".
Another email says Scarlett took a taxi back to Curly's bar on Anjuna beach and slept there and that the "boys" showed her some hardcore porn movies on a phone and took turns trying to rape her – "got a taxi bak to curlies and slept ther but the boys showed me some hardcore porn movis on a phone then they all took it in turns tryin 2 rape me an i feel so shit ryt now man".
"We are waiting to speak to her mother as she may have more information. She couldn't come to India as she couldn't get a visa. We will be going to the UK soon," said the CBI Superintendent of Police Sujit Pande.
Last September, the prime suspect, Samson D'Souza, was given bail by a court in Goa due to a lack of evidence. The other accused man, Placido Carvalho, was released on bail last April.
It was in November that Scarlett's mother Fiona Mckeown apparently accessed her account and discovered these emails, which she handed over to the CBI through her lawyer Varma.
