A school bus trying to avoid a collision overturned in Greater Noida on Tuesday morning, injuring five children.
The driver could not see a tractor in front due to fog and braked suddenly. The bus skidded and rolled into a ditch. There were 70 children on board.
Jehangirpur police station SHO Manoj Pathak said the bus was bringing children from two villages to N.S. Public School. “All of them received bruises but most were discharged after first-aid. Five suffered minor injuries in the face and limbs, but were discharged within three hours,” he said.
Parents alleged the bus was of 1980 vintage and they had asked the authorities to replace it. “We have asked the principal to bring the registration papers but he hasn’t come yet. Driver Rajan Singh has been detained. But neither the parents nor the school has filed an FIR,” Pathak said.
“The management reached the hospital late and refused to pay the bills,” Hari Shankar, a relative, alleged. However, principal Anil Tomar claimed they had reached the hospital on time and provided medical aid.
