In the wake of upcoming 55-day Amarnath yatra, starting June 28, director school education, Kashmir on Friday asked the heads of government and private educational institutions to desist from sending the students on excursion and picnic to Pahalgam and Sonamarg, both are yatra routes.

According to the government spokesman, in respect of other picnic spots, prior permission needs to be obtained from zonal education officer concerned and chief education officer in case of the elementary schools and in respect of high and higher secondary schools.

"This should be ensured by the head of the institutions both government and private that the excursion and picnics are conducted carefully, leaving no room for any misdemeanour and safe pick-up and return of students," said the spokesman. He said that violation of instruction shall be viewed seriously.
