School girl killed in BSF firing in West Bengal

A 17-year old girl was killed in BSF firing at Chapra, near Bangladesh border, in Nadia districton Wednesday triggering protest from local people in the area who alleged she was shot at while resisting molestation attempt by the border security personnel.

Khukuli Mondal, a class X student of Raniapota High School was returning home after test examinations when she was hit by a bullet fired by BSF firing at smugglers.

The girl was taken a hospital where she died three hours later.

As the news of the death reached the area, local people alleged the girl was deliberately shot by some BSF jawans when she resisted their "molestation attempt at a deserted stretch."

Security personnel were patrolling the area as tension ran high following the arrival of the girl's body.

Local political parties demanded a thorough and impartial probe into the incident and compensation to the bereaved family.
