THERE WAS pandemonium at Vaishnav Kanya Bal Mandir (Rajmohalla) on Friday morning for over two hours when angry parents beat up two school trustees and ransacked furniture, accusing the school management of failing to take action against three employees who they said had been fondling little girls in the bus and also inside the school building.
Police had to be called in and they escorted the teachers and trustees out of the building and placated the angry parents.
The angry parents charged that even though they had been complaining to principal Nanda Vyas for quite some time, she had been shielding the accused. The parents also demanded her removal. The trouble started a couple of days ago, on Thursday, when some parents demonstrated at the school demanding action against a bus driver named Ashok Karode, conductor Ram and an ayah named Sarla.
The police were informed and they had arrested Ashok and Ram. It appeared that the matter had ended and the school function on Republic Day was to be held as scheduled.
However, the anger of the parents had not subsided. They announced that they would hold demonstration on Republic day. Around 300 parents gathered at the school gates even as the children were preparing for the Republic Day function inside. As the pressure of the parents increased, they broke open the gates and entered the school premises and there was complete pandemonium.
As teachers ran for safety, the parents first ensured that the children were escorted safely inside classrooms.
Principal sent on leave
School principal Nanda Vyas has been sent on long leave and vice-principal Vasundhara Bangur has been made acting in charge. The three accused employees have been dismissed from service.
