On what was an extremely busy Monday, Scuderia Toro Rosso became the third team after Sauber and Red Bull Racing to launch their 2012 Formula One car. The team unveiled their new Ferrari powered STR7 at the Jerez de la Frontera circuit in eastern Spain with their all new driver line-up of Australian Daniel Ricciardo and Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne present.
Like all the seven cars launched prior to it, with the exception of McLaren, the car features a step-nose. Like the McLaren, however, its sidepod intakes have been reprofiled since last year and look similar to that of the British based team's MP4-27.
Spain's Jaime Alguersuari was also present at the launch as a reserve driver for both Toro Rosso and Red Bull Racing. The 21-year-old Spaniard finished 14th in last year's drivers' championships with seven top-10 finishes but was not retained by the team based in Faenza, Italy.
Austrian Franz Tost continues as the team principal as does Giorgio Ascanelli in his role as the team's technical director.
