THE TEAMS of South Central Zone and West Zone will clash on Wednesday for title in the final of badminton event being played under the All India LIC Sports Festival at Tatya Tope Stadium. In the table tennis event, teams of North Central Zone and East Zone have entered the final, which will also be played on Wednesday.

In the first semifinal of the men’s badminton event, South Central Zone defeated South Zone 2-0. West Zone defeated East Zone 2-1 in the second semifinal. North Central Zone defeated hosts Central Zone 3-0 in the semifinal of the men’s table tennis team championship. East Zone defeated North Zone 3-0 in the second semifinal of the same category.

In the women’s chess event, South Central Zone took the lead on the second day with 17 points. West Zone was on the second position with 16 points. In the men’s category, North Central Zone took the lead with 18.5 points. South Central Zone was on the second position with 13.5 points.

Talking to reporters, LIC zonal manager R V Rao said that for the first time six events are being organised at the same time at one place. Table tennis, athletics, badminton, chess, volleyball and carrom are organsied in the five-day meet. “In all, 451 participants are contesting in the all India meet from the seven zonal offices of LIC” Rao said.
