THE GOVERNOR and chancellor Dr Balram Jakhar on Saturday constituted a three-member search committee that would suggest a panel of probable names for the post of the vice-chancellor of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore.
The committee is headed by Justice Gurbakhsh Singh Majithia from Chandigarh who is also the chancellor’s nominee and includes Abhay Chhajlani of Indore – nominee of Executive Committee of the DAVV and former vice-chancellor of the Dr Hari Singh Gour University, Sagar, Prof Dhananjay Verma who is the nominee of University Grants Commission (UGC).
The committee has been directed to submit a panel of probable names within six weeks. The chancellor has the right to make the final selection of VC from among the names in the panel suggested by the search committee.
The post has been lying vacant for about two months after Dr C S Chaddha resigned following a bitter confrontation with the then University registrar Parikshit Singh.
The controversy saw both the vice-chancellor and the registrar having to give up the respective offices. Prof Rajkamal is presently holding the charge as the vice-chancellor of the university.
Presently, the office of the vice-chancellor of the Rani Durgavati University, Gwalior is also lying vacant after removal of the former V-C Prof Hoshiyar Singh last month. The chancellor is expected to soon constitute a search committee to fill up this post too.
