Search is on for the four engineering students, who were swept away in Chambal river here last evening.

“Rescue operation teams of Municipal Corporation, several local divers and experts of Indian Army are intensively searching for the students who had entered into the water at Bhanwar kunj, a picnic spot near Chambal river, last evening and were swept away,” Kota Collector D R Meena said.

“The kunj, in which the water comes from a spring, is just few feet deep. At the point where it connects with the Chambal, the depth is over hundred feet,” he said.

A group of ten first year students of Presidency Engineering College had gone for picnic at the kunj. Of them six entered into the river for bathing but the four were swept away in heavy current while two were rescued.

The students, who were swept away, have been identified as Ronak, Diskant, Nikunj -- all from Dungarpur district -- and Shahnawaj of Uttar Pradesh.

"Their parents have reached the spot," he said.
