The Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday made its second arrest in Odisha during its investigation into the multiple rape videos circulated by Hyderabad-based NGO Prajwala.
The CBI arrested Debasish Dev (30), who allegedly shot the video in which Bhubaneswar-based property dealer and builder Subrat Sahu was seen raping a girl, from Cuttack.
Sahu (45) had allegedly raped the 24-year-old woman five years ago while Dev filmed the act. The video was later circulated on a mobile messaging app.
The CBI had arrested Sahu on March 24 from Bhubaneswar after the Supreme Court ordered the CBI to probe videos of rapes or gangrapes uploaded on social networking sites, including WhatsApp. The CBI took him to New Delhi and brought him back to Bhubaneswar after getting a seven-day custody of Sahu from a Delhi court.
The CBI found that several girls had fallen victim to Sahu’s “rape trap”, sources said. CBI has seized nude video clippings from various hard disks belonging to Sahu and is now trying to ascertain the girls’ identities, accomplices who shot the videos and places where the clips were shot and edited. CBI is probing the involvement of influential persons who helped Sahu.
