SECURITY AT Lucknow and Kanpur airports too have been beefed up following tip-off from the FBI.

The Principal Secretary (Home) summoned all the district magistrates and district police chiefs and reviewed the security arrangements at the airports. He instructed them to personally oversee the security arrangements and make it foolproof.

Although the air services from Kanpur are on hold for some time now, the DM and SSP were told that there could be no compromise on the security aspect. The meeting according to sources, underlined the importance of checking the movement especially in prohibited and operational zones.

The senior officials were of the view that security lapses could help the terror groups to cash in on the opportunity. DM Varanasi took up the issue of shortfall in strength of quick response team.

The Principal Secretary instantly ordered additional allocation of security personnel at Kanpur, Lucknow, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Varanasi and Agra airports.
He also directed for immediate training for the security personnel to be deployed at these places. He asked for thorough checking of passengers and increase in random checks.

The Principal security citing suggestions of ADG (security) has also directed for increase in number of watchtowers, enhanced patrolling and deployment of bomb disposal squads at the airports.

In addition, he also directed for character verification of security personnel being deployed at the airports. While a police post would also be established at Varanasi airport, the Prinicipal Secretary (Home) directed for an intensified process to rehabilitate villagers of Gudaura, which is adjacent to Lucknow airport.
