After a statue of former chief minister Mayawati was vandalized at a Lucknow park on Thursday, security has been beefed up at Noida’s Dalit Prerna Sthal in Sector 93.
Around 150 people gathered outside the park to protest against the incident, disrupting the traffic in the area. In Lucknow, four unidentified men allegedly vandalised Mayawati’s life-size statue at a park.
The Dalit Prerna Sthal, which was inaugurated by Mayawati in October last year, has several statues of the BSP leader along with Dalit icons. The park is yet to open for public and there is a dedicated unit of security personnel deployed here.
After Lucknow’s incident, additional security arrangements has been made as a precautionary measure.
“One company of provincial armed constabulary (PAC), along with the policemen of two police stations, was deployed at the park. Senior police officers also visited the park to assess the situaton,” said Yogesh Singh, superintendent of police.
Meanwhile, a large number of BSP supporters gathered outside Noida park to protest against Lucknow’s incident. The protesters also disrupted traffic on the road between.
“We have no faith in law and administration. If they can’t protect even a statue, how the state government is going to protect the residents of the state. We want strict action against those involved in vendalising the statue of our leader,” said Surendra Singh Nagar, MP, Gautam Budh Nagar.
