Security has been tightened at the State Bank of India’s (SBI) Global IT Centre in Navi Mumbai since Wednesday afternoon after receiving intelligence alert of a terror threat.
A police officer said : “The Intelligence Bureau has alerted that there are terror threats to a few locations in the country. This SBI office in CBD Belapur is one of them. Hence strict police bandobast has been deployed there.”
Entry to the building has been restricted and only those with valid identity cards are being allowed inside. Sources claimed that only basic operations are being undertaken at the office.
Security has been beefed up at various branches of the bank.
Despite repeated attempts, police commissioner Ahmad Javed and deputy commissioner of Police Purshottam Karad refused to comment.
An SBI official said, “The Nariman Point office of SBI had received a message that the bank’s network was under threat. Since the server is in Belapur office, it is believed that the building could be targeted.”
