Security beefed up: Govt

THE STATE Government today asserted that elaborate security arrangements had been made at all places of public and historical importance in view of the terrorist threat on Independence Day. DGP Bua Singh said the Centre had provided three additional companies of Central Para Military Forces. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had sent a letter to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil requesting for additional CPMF companies, he said.

THE STATE Government today asserted that elaborate security arrangements had been made at all places of public and historical importance in view of the terrorist threat on Independence Day.

DGP Bua Singh said the Centre had provided three additional companies of Central Para Military Forces. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav had sent a letter to Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil requesting for additional CPMF companies, he said.

The SSB had been already deployed on the Indo-Nepal border, he said adding the PAC had also been deployed to strengthen security on the border. At least 43 police stations and outposts had been set up on the border, he said.

Zoo closely guarded too

THE LUCKNOW Zoo has stepped up security to manage the heavy crowd that it is expecting on the Independence Day. It has asked for more security on the day.

Zoo Director, Eva Sharma said that the zoo guards at the gate would ask visitors to deposit their belonging in the cloakroom. She said the visitors would be allowed to carry only food items.  She said all the employees of the Lucknow Zoo had been asked to plant one sapling at the zoo after the flag-hoisting ceremony.

She said, mostly saplings of peepal, neem, amla, ber, jamun and many other plants would be planted and these would be planted close to the cages of a few animals.”
