Security was on Thursday tightened across Kerala, especially around major temples like Sabarimala and Sree Krishna temple at Guruvayur in view of the 15th anniversary of Babri Masjid demolition.

The vigil around railway stations, airports and bus depots in major towns had been heightened with the deployment of additional forces, police sources said.

Special commandos, armed police personnel and bomb squad had been posted at Sabarimla and foothills Pampa, where piligrims in thousands continue to arrive as the annual Mandalavilakku season is on.

About 1000 police personnel were posted at Sannidhanam alone where the shrine is located and another 600 at Pampa, the sources said.

The pilgrims are scanned by metal detectors at Pampa and Sannidhanam and the bags and mobile phones are not allowed to be taken to the temple complex.

Securitymen are also guarding electricity transformers, water tanks and petrol bunks.
