The police are going an extra step forward to curb terrorism, counter crime and domestic accidents.

The Mumbai Police and Eureka Forbes, a corporate house, have begun a joint initiative — Jagrut Mumbaikar in association with Mumbai Fire Brigade under the tagline ‘Be Secure for Sure’.

The programme aimed at spreading awareness among citizens to be more alert.

“The initiative, which is a one year programme is aimed at making citizens responsible, ready and aware to meet challenges in times of crisis.

It also attempts at boosting their confidence by making the police more approachable and friendly,” said Hasan Gafoor, police commissioner.

“In this regard, Eureka Forbes, with its on-ground network of over 7,000 Eurochamps will assist the police and fire officials in reaching out to residents across the city,” said S.L Goklaney, vice-chairman and MD, Eureka Forbes.

As per the programme, a team involving the three agencies would be visiting housing societies in the city to give tips on security and safety through presentations, drills, lectures, handouts and so on.

In the first phase, the Eureka Forbes staff would make door-to-door visits, informing people about the programme and registration process for their participation.

In one year, the campaign expects to cover at least 250 housing societies.
