Was there a security breach when Vice-President Hamid Ansari’s plane to New Delhi was about to take off from Biju Patnaik Airport here on Friday?

Reports said the Air Force’s special Rajhans plane carrying Ansari and his family was scheduled to take off at 12.30 pm. However, it started rolling towards the runway half an hour later.

After moving for about 30 metres it stopped just before turning to the runway because a Kingfisher Airbus was allowed to land.

The vice-president’s plane was allowed to proceed again to the runway about five minutes after the private commercial plane crossed it.

Airport security guidelines say the runway is supposed to be traffic-free when a VVIP’s flight is to take off.

Airport Director Anil Kumar Pathak was not available for comment.
