Security forces kill 6 militants in Manipur
Six suspected underground cadres of a hill based armed group were killed in an encounter with the security forces in a hilly terrain in Manipur’s Senapati district in the wee hours of Sunday. Sobhapati Samom reports.
Six suspected underground cadres of a hill based armed group were killed in an encounter with the security forces in a hilly terrain in Manipur’s Senapati district in the wee hours of Sunday.
The incident took place when troops of 10 Assam Rifles posted near Kotlien village based on a tip off conducted an operation in the hilly terrain near the Songlung village, about 90 km south west of Saparmeinya Police station, sources said.
Confirming the incident, the Officer in Charge Lhouvum of the Saparmeinya Police Station when contacted on phone said,“we’re yet to get details of the incident”.
Sources available in Imphal however claimed that six weapons including 4 AK 47 rifles, one each of M-16 rifle and A-3 rifle were recovered from the encounter site while a team of security forces have rushed to the encounter site to collect the dead the bodies.
The Army authority based at the 57th Mountain Division, Leimakhong in Manipur also could not be contacted till the report goes to the press.
