Security has been beefed up in Orissa's communally sensitive Kandhamal district to avoid any untoward incident during Christmas celebrations.
"Security personnel have been deployed at places of worship, prayer halls and Christian-inhabited areas, while all streets are being patrolled," SP S Praveen Kumar said.
There would be checking at all entry points to the tribal-inhabited district, he said.
"Strict vigil is being maintained across the district which witnessed had communal violence during Christmas in December 2007 and after the killing of VHP leader Laxmanananda Saraswati in August 2008," a senior police official said.
Meanwhile, the Kui Samaj Seva Samiti which had planned a procession and public meeting tomorrow to observe 'Saheed Divas' to mark the third death anniversary of a tribal who was killed in riots at Barkhama village in Baliguda block, has cancelled its decision.
"However, a rally and a meeting will be held at Barkhama," KSSS leader Lambodar Kanhar said.
