One of the two joint security force personnel injured in an encounter with Maoists in West Bengal's Purulia district died in a Ranchi hospital today even as two Maoists were arrested in connection with the killing of two Trinamool Congress workers.
Purulia Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar Chowdhury said the security force personnel of a Naga regiment, who was seriously injured in an encounter with the Ayodhya squad of the Maoists in Balarampur on November 14, died at a hospital in Ranchi.
The encounter followed the killing of two Trinamool Congress workers Ajit Singh Sardar and his son Baku Singh Sardar at Balarampur. Two Maoists had also been killed in the encounter. In another development, two of the killers of the Trinamool Congress workers, Maoists Sanjay Das and Parasuram Das were arrested late last night from Sonachura and Gangra villages in East Midnapore district, East Midnapore Superintendent of Police Ashok Biswas said.
The arrested Maoists were also responsible for the killing of Nandigram-Sonachura gram panchayat pradhan Nishikanata Mondal in 2009, he said. In junglemahal, comprising the forested areas of West Midnapore, Bankura and Purulia districts, stepped up operations by the joint forces continued.
