The sixth Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is to be held on January 18 under heightened security cover. More than 2000 policemen will be on guard all along the routes and the 35,000 participants expected will have to pass through metal detectors while assembling at Azad Maidan.
“We are taking care of every aspect as far as security is concerned,” said Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Sanjay Barve. “The participants and spectators should not hesitate to come to the event.”
There will be five events – the full marathon, the half marathon, the dream run, the senior citizens race, and the wheelchair race.
The full marathoners will start from Mahapalika Marg and run towards Bandra Reclamation and return along the same route. The wheelchair participants will go from Mahapalika Marg towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. The half marathon will be on the same route of the full marathon.
The dream run and senior citizens race will be at Azad Maidan.
