Senior officers of the State Home department said the application seeking more time has been filed in the HC. However, Advocate General SMA Kazmi said the application has been prepared and may be filed soon.

Meanwhile, a piquant situation prevails in the corridors of power here as the HC’s order has left the State Government in a dilemma. All the files regarding providing gunners and shadows to the private individuals are being scrutinised.

A senior officer of the Home department said the situation was being regularly reviewed and appropriate follow-up action would be taken soon. The State Government is also contemplating a move to file a special leave petition (SLP) before the SC if it failed to get relief from the HC.

Significantly, the HC had given specific directives that no exception could be made simply on the ground that there was threat to the life of the persons. This was also the mandate of the government orders that prohibit provision of security to persons with criminal antecedents.
